Indication: Paratyphoid (Salmonella typhimurium var. Copenhagen). E-coli and general bacterial infections.
Combination tablet for oral individual treatment of paratyphoid, E-coli and general bacterial infections in pigeons.

Symptoms:  
Salmonella usually settles in specific areas in the body of the pigeon, particularly in the bowel, the vestibular system, the shoulder or hock joint and/or the genitals.
Two forms of infections are distinguished:
Subclinical form: the pigeon is infected but will show no symptoms; however, the animal does carry the infection. The bacterium will usually be located in the liver or the intestines. Animals that have the subclinical form of paratyphus will excrete the bacterium and thus form a huge source of infection.
Clinical form (acute):

• Acute intestinal form: Particularly in younger pigeons, this manifests itself in gravely ill animals; they will curl up and fluff out their feathers; their stool will be slimy and green.
• Vestibular system: balance disorders occur; animals whose vestibular system is affected by Salmonella will experience food absorption problems, lose weight a fall to their sides.
• Joints: swelling of the shoulder or hock joints; in time usually leads to joint stiffening.
• Internal form: serious infection of the kidneys and the liver, in some cases of the genitals (ovaries and testes). Not easily recognisable from external symptoms, this particular form will sooner become manifest in reduced fertility (from affected genitals) or dying embryos (egg infected in the ovary). Another sign is weight loss for no apparent reason in a few, mainly elderly animals.

If the above symptoms occur, the best advice is to consult an expert and have stool and blood analyses carried out.
Recurring treatment may control the disease in the short term but hardly will be effective in the long run: the bacterium will become resistant against the antibiotic applied. It is therefore recommended to vaccinate the animals after thorough treatment, allowing them to build up a natural defence mechanism.
Prevention of stress and the provision of proper hygiene in the cage are of the essence.

Active ingredients: Furaltadone, Tetracycline, Chloramphenicol.

Dose:
Preventive treatment: 1 tablet per pigeon, 1 day/2 consecutive days.
Curative treatment: 1 tablet per pigeon, 5 consecutive days or as prescribed by an expert; repeat treatment if necessary.

For treating large numbers of birds, FMT allroundmix (D067) or Trimethoprim/Sulfa (D083) can be administered in the drinking water or over the food.
